Beaches

The beautiful Mediterranean blue sea against the golden granite is usually the first thing that visitors to St Ives notice as they arrive. In fact, because of its position on its own little peninsula, St Ives is almost surrounded by the sea and has three golden sandy beaches facing different directions within a few hundred yards of one other. Within a short car journey, the choice is even better - which means that, no matter what you want from a holiday by the sea, St Ives is sure to satisfy. Surfing
The St. Ives area is internationally famous for its surfing and Porthmeor Beach is a major venue for both the local and international surfers looking for that perfect wave. A consistent beach with good peaks in South-South West wind.

Art, Museums & Galleries
St Ives is an International Centre for the Arts with more than forty craft shops
and galleries as well as the Tate Gallery.
Many famous people have lived in St. Ives from time to time; Turner, Whistler, Henry Moore, Dame Barbara Hepworth, Bernard Leach and Virginia Woolf. Henry Irving lived in the nearby village of Halsetown. These are just a few of the famous people who found the magic that is St. Ives.
One of its best-known landmarks is the Tate Gallery overlooking Porthmeor Beach. The exhibitions here show the best of contemporary Cornish art in the area and atmosphere in which it was created. One artist who fell under the spell of St Ives was Barbara Hepworth, a great sculptress who lived and worked in St. Ives at her Trewyn Studio. Her workshop has been carefully preserved and the gardens and house contain many examples of her work and some of her finest pieces.
Every September the town's artistic and musical heritage are celebrated in the St Ives Festival of Music and the Arts. There are still lots of artists living and working in the area and during the festival many open up their studios to visitors, and other creative events take place in these two weeks, the middle two weeks of September.
